Sweet potatoes love our hot, dry summers and grow very well in this area.  They need to be planted in well drained soil and in a bed that is dedicated to sweet potatoes (the sweet potato vines will take over).  Generally started from seedlings (which need to be pre-ordered), the seedlings are planted in June for harvest in October.  Note, seedlings need to be protected from deer and rabbits until plants are established.
